Kentucky Lake Bicycling

Many of you might know about the re-design and construction of the roadway crossing the Tennessee River downstream of Kentucky Lake dam. But did you know the old roadway that used to cross the dam itself has been converted to a combination bicycle/pedestrian pathway.
The asphalt paved pathway leads from the beach area at Kentucky Lake Dam State Park to the TVA powerhouse section of the dam where the path intersects with a local roadway. From the powerhouse area, you can coast down the hill to the tailwaters parking lot area below the dam and continue a bit further to another parking area located under the new US 641 and railroad bridges. The distance of the pathway is just under 1.5 miles one way, add another third of a mile down to the lower parking areas.
We usually park at the beach end, ride across the dam, three rounds or so, and mix it up with some riding through the state park. The view of Kentucky Lake from the pathway is spectacular, the view beneath the dam is equally impressive.
So if you are headed to the Lake, be sure to bring your bicycles and catch some great exercise, views, fresh air and a fun activity the whole family can share.
